Benjamin Bradshaw is a Senior Data Scientist at Evidation Health where he leads a team that uses data derived from the internet of things to better understand behavior and physiology associated with health outcomes. His work has spanned a variety of industries including working with insurance payers, pharmaceutical companies, and government agencies interested in the nascent field encompassing data derived via passive digital sensors. Benjamin's background is in economics and he previously worked as a Research Associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco researching the impact of various public policy instruments.

Arthur Charpentier, PhD, is professor at UQAM, Montreal, Canada, and Fellow of the French Institute of Actuaries. He is member of the editorial board of the ASTIN Bulletin, author of several research articles and editor of Computational Actuarial Science with R. He is also the former director of the Data Science for Actuaries program of the French Institute of Actuaries. Website

Ian Duncan is Adjunct Associate Professor of Actuarial Statistics at the University of California Santa Barbara and president of Santa Barbara Actuaries Inc. a provider of healthcare predictive modeling and actuarial services. Mr. Duncan holds a graduate degree in economics from Balliol College, Oxford and is a post-graduate research student at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed papers, and several books and book chapters. His latest book, a second edition of “Healthcare Risk Adjustment and Predictive Modeling” (Actex Publications) was published in May 2018.

Brian Hartman is the Actuarial Program Director and Assistant Professor of Statistics at Brigham Young University. His current research interests include Bayesian methods and their applications in actuarial science and risk. He has worked in various capacities with companies in property-casualty, health, and long-term care insurance. Before BYU, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo (2010-11) and an assistant professor at the University of Connecticut (2011-15).

Yiding Jiang leads analytics at HealthReveal, a software start up that is building a platform that replicates patients' digital twin and deploys AI software to identify suboptimal care and missed treatment opportunities. He is a fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, and holds a MSc in Health policy from London School of Economics.

Francois Millard is a Senior Vice President of Product at Vitality Group International, a member of South Africa-based Discovery Holdings Limited. He leads Vitality’s global collaborative research agenda and the practical application thereof; areas of focus include healthy aging, the quantification and financial impact of lifestyle risk on health and longevity, and innovative solutions to improve life at all ages. Francois has experience in all actuarial aspects of life and health insurance. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in London, the Society of Actuaries in the US and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Adam Tashman is VP, Head of Data Science at Carpe Data, a Santa Barbara-based Insurtech firm. He also teaches data science in the UCSB PSTAT department. His previous roles include Head of Analytics at a Boston-based fintech startup, and Vice President of Quantitative Research at Citigroup in their Global Managed Investments department. Adam holds an MS and PhD from Stony Brook University in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.

Sara Teppema has over 25 years of health care and actuarial experience, primarily in consulting. She currently designs value-based care models for a large health insurer. She is a member of the board of directors of the Society of Actuaries and is heavily involved in SOA research activity, as well as SOA initiatives for diversity and public health.

Emiliano A. Valdez is a professor in actuarial science at the University of Connecticut and has work experience that combines many years of academic and industry work. His research interest is broadly in the area of data analytics in actuarial science and insurance. He has received the Edward A. Lew Award, the Halmstad Prize and the Hachemeister Prize in recognition for his contributions to the actuarial literature.

Howard Zail is a founding partner of Elucidor, LLC where he provides financial analysis on insurance-related risks and issues. He has developed advanced predictive analytics and machine learning systems designed for the insurance industry and has worked extensively on mortality and life settlement projects, including conducting in-depth mortality studies, building appraisal and simulation models, conducting due diligence and advising operators and investors in this industry on a wide range of issues. Howard has an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a BSc (Honors) from the University of Witwatersrand. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Faculty of Actuaries.
