Guojun Gan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Connecticut, where he has been since August 2014. Prior to that, he worked at a large life insurance company in Toronto, Canada for six years and a hedge fund in Oakville, Canada for one year. He received a BS degree from Jilin University, Changchun, China, in 2001 and MS and PhD degrees from York University, Toronto, Canada, in 2003 and 2007, respectively. Website

Steve Guo is currently an Actuarial Science faculty member at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Ball State University. He has a PhD degree from Georgia State University, and BS/MS degrees from Purdue University. Prior to joining Ball State University, Steve worked at University of California, Santa Barbara as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability.

Garth is a data scientist at UberEats, where he’s currently working on promotion optimization for the marketplace pricing team. He’s been in Bay Area tech for the past 10 years and he graduated with a master’s degree in statistics from UCSB’s PSTAT department.

Kevin is the Director of Insurance Practice at RStudio where he works with customers on incorporating open source and commercial software in their data science infrastructures.

Stephen Mildenhall, FCAS, ASA, CERA, CSPA, CCRMP, has worked in the insurance industry since 1992. Most recently, he was an Assistant Professor at St. John's University, New York. Between 2003 and 2016 he worked at Aon, including roles as Global CEO of Analytics for Aon plc and head of Aon Benfield Analytics. Previously, he was Vice President of Actuarial Pricing for Kemper Insurance. He began his career in 1992 at CNA, holding positions in CNA Re and CNA Personal Lines. He earned his Masters and PhD degrees in Mathematics from the University of Chicago and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick in England. Steve serves on the Board of the Casualty Actuarial Society and is Chair of the CAS Audit Committee. He is a frequent speaker at professional meetings and industry events, and is the author of several published papers in risk theory, the intersection of insurance and finance, and probability and statistics applications to reserving and rate-making problems.

Ron Richman is an experienced actuary and risk manager, currently an Associate Director at QED Actuaries and Consultants, where he is responsible for client work on life and general insurance clients and performing research into applications of machine learning and AI to actuarial and insurance topics. Before this, he led the Enterprise Risk Management and Actuarial Functions for the AIG group within Africa for several years. Ron is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA), holds practicing certificates in Short Term Insurance and Life Insurance from ASSA, and a Masters of Philosophy in Actuarial Science, with distinction, from the University of Cape Town.

Mark Shoun is Head of Data Science at Ledger Investing, an insurtech startup that is creating a robust marketplace for insurance capital via insurance-linked securities (ILS). Previously, he worked at GEICO, where he led the technical design of a policy-level portfolio forecasting and simulation system. He holds a Master's degree in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University.
