Located on the Central Coast two hours north of Los Angeles, UC Santa Barbara has one of the largest actuarial programs in the nation. With more than 350 undergraduate Majors in Actuarial
Science, we graduate over a hundred students each year and offer the only full-fledged actuarial BS degree in California. Hosted by the Department of Statistics & Applied Probability, our program
enjoys synergies between traditional actuarial research and the latest trends in data science, machine learning and computational statistics. In particular, our faculty are working on a range of problems in predictive analytics and quantitative modeling in healthcare insurance, longevity risk, and risk management.
The UCSB InsurTech Summit is a new series of annual workshops, bringing together academics and practitioners working on applications of Data Science in Insurance. The one-day event is hosted by UCSB and acts as a regional hub for InsurTech research and industry. Participants will strengthen their networks and discuss future research directions. The slate of speakers includes thought leaders in the broad arena of InsurTech encompassing the intersection of Data Science, Actuarial Science, Statistics and Entrepreneurship. For the inaugural Summit in 2019 the two focus themes are HealthCare/Wellness and P&C Insurance.
